The Tile Cross Stitch Card
Kind of an odd title, I know...but seriously this card reminds me of the tiles at a Mexican restaurant! (Mmm, now I'm hungry..) It didn't start out that way but now every time I look at it, that's what I see! :)
So as I've said before, I'm in love with the Paper Smooches Cross Stitch die. You can make any patterns you want with it and some string! I started searching for patterns on Pinterest the other day and found one that had a diamond pattern in it that I thought would be cool to mimic, so I sketched out the pattern on the back of one of a die cut piece of paper. One thing I learned quickly is that just because someone lists on Pinterest that it is the paper smooches cross stitch die, doesn't mean that is has the same number of stitch holes. The pattern on pinterest only had 22 holes across, while mine has 24. Doh! Well, I continued to sketch out the design on the back side of the paper and got it close enough so it looked similar and then went to work on picking out the colors.
First place I stopped was the Color Throwdown Challenge blog to get some color inspiration. If I had been more motivated I probably could have entered this into last week's challenge but alas, I missed the cutoff. Oh well, I still think the colors are fabulous!
I picked a true blue, sage green and bright yellow pallet and then determined which color would go where in the design. With some cross stitch designs, it doesn't matter which color to stitch first, but with this pattern it did because it is in essence an overlapping diamond pattern. So I decided I wanted my blue to be the base diamond and the green to cross over the blue. I stitched the blue lines first, then the green, next yellow and last added the white crosses.
To turn it into a card, I cut down the paper so it only had a 1/4 inch border on all sides of the stitching. Next, attached it to a yellow paper to create a border by putting 1/4 inch sticky tape all along the edge of the stitching and across the middle of the stitching. I love the sticky tape at Maymaymadeit.com would highly recommend it if you want to attach stitched panels to card fronts. Next, I attached those pieces it to a blue A2 card front.
Lastly, I used one of my stitched circle dies to cut out a circle in vellum and heat embossed the sentiment on it using sentiments from Maymay's From All of Us stamp set and Brutus Monroe Cobalt embossing powder. I attached the vellum with some strategically placed Art Glitter Glue and added little jewels from Honey Bee Stamps Rainbow jewels (Because who doesn't like a little bling!)
Hope you enjoyed the card for today! See you next time!
